Monticello Summer Adventure Camp is a week-long day camp where rising third through sixth graders enjoy indoor and outdoor programming as they explore Monticello's history.
Campers' one word descriptions of Summer Adventure Camp
Included with registration are daily snacks and tours of the main house, Mulberry Row, historic gardens, and archaeology sites.
Some of our campers' favorite activities each year:
- Screening for artifacts with archaeologists
- Making homemade ice cream
- Creating keepsake crafts
Scholarships for SNAP-EBT Families
All families who receive benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) are eligible to attend camp for free, while space is available.
To apply for free tuition, select the SNAP/EBT Scholarship option from the registration page and complete all registration details. We’ll get in touch using the contact information provided to verify eligibility and confirm participation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Rising 3rd graders through rising 6th graders (rising 3rd graders must be 8 years old by Sept 2023)
Activities include archaeology, exploring the gardens, creating crafts, playing games, and a special tour of the Monticello mansion. Surrounded by the spectacular setting of Monticello, campers explore Thomas Jefferson’s ideas and the daily life of the people, both free and enslaved, who lived on this working plantation.
We provide a snack daily. If your child has food allergies, we encourage you to send a comparable snack if needed.
Enrollment is limited to 16 participants per session.
Monticello Summer Adventures are led by friendly and professional Monticello guides, with assistance from youth volunteers. With two adult instructors, children receive plenty of personal attention.
Sessions fill quickly, so we recommend registering as early as possible.

If you need to cancel, please notify us as soon as possible at 434.984.9880 or reservations@monticello.org. Payment will be refunded with 30 days’ notice. If cancelation occurs with fewer than 30 days’ notice, payment will be refunded only if the space can be filled.
