Highlights Tour
This 45-minute guided experience includes first floor spaces in Thomas Jefferson’s home, the West Lawn, and the South Wing. You’ll learn about Jefferson and his vision for America, the realities of slavery on the Monticello plantation, and the mountaintop’s iconic architecture. The number of groups taken each day is limited so please be prepared to make your request early and include additional dates.
Monticello Gardens and Grounds
By utilizing text panels, reader rails, an app, and a scavenger hunt, students enjoy self-guided exploration of the historic mountaintop. Included are the North and South Wings, Cellars, Mulberry Row's reconstructed buildings, the All-Weather passage, the Life of Sally Hemings exhibit, and the gardens. Guests can use their smartphones to read QR codes that will direct them to dynamic content about these spaces, including videos and interviews.
Access to the first floor of the house is not included in this option.

Virginia School Partnerships
Monticello is committed to working with Virginia schools to create engaging experiences that build upon classroom learning and directly align with Virginia Social Studies Standards of Learning. Our school programs offer an extended 2-hour guided program known as a Roundabout School Program. In this experience, you will be greeted by a Monticello Guide at the Visitor Center and embark on a two-hour journey that includes a 40-minute tour of the House, mountaintop exploration, and a visit to the museum galleries. The Manager of Student Learning works directly with you to coordinate your visit and customize content, themes, and activities.
If you are interested in learning more about our Roundabout School Program option and how Monticello might partner with your school, email the Manager of Student Learning at education@monticello.org.
Digital Programs
If you can't bring your class to Monticello, we'll bring it to you!
We offer two different digital education programs for your K-12 students. Check out the program descriptions on our Digital Programs or email us at digital.learning@monticello.org with any questions!
