“In particular I focused on the holes in the text and the markings that Jefferson made as he went through his editing process,” Searls said. “The photographs weave emptiness and words to form emotions both about the act of editing scripture and original text.” Alexandria Searls holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Virginia, teaches film and videography courses and has an extensive record of photography exhibits and film screenings. She is currently director of the Lewis and Clark Exploratory Center in Charlottesville.
