Daffodils and Jonquils

Tenby Daffodil - Narcissus obvallaris. This small yellow daffodil was introduced to cultivation by 1613 and is now naturalized in parts of Wales. It is known as a vigorous grower and was being used in American gardens by the end of the 18th century.

The Tenby Daffodil is one of the earliest daffodils to bloom in the spring. It looks like a small version of our modern Trumpet Daffodils, with its head slightly up-facing. It is easy to grow and will live and multiply for many years.

February Gold Daffodil- Narcissus cyclamineus

Jefferson noted "Narcissus" blooming on April 6, 1766, and again on March 17, 1782. Narcissus, which includes the Daffodil and its smaller relative, the Jonquil, is one of the most popular garden flowers. Its early arrival and its bright trumpet and crown make it an apt herald of spring.
