Thomas Jefferson described the woodlands surrounding Monticello as a respite, where from the "beaming, constant and almost vertical sun of Virginia, shade is our Elysium."
The trees that surround Monticello are still just as necessary in our evolving ecosystem. This tour will explore the long-established trees on the East and West Lawns of the mountaintop, and the Grove's newer plantings. Join us on this tour, and learn about the history of specific trees, and how they fit within the context of arboriculture today.
