
This three-hour ramble through Monticello's woodlands and its stunning fall foliage will concentrate on identifying trees by their bark, fruit, seeds, buds, habit, and habitat. Experts from Monticello's Gardens and Grounds staff will lead this exclusive-access adventure along Jefferson’s original road system.
What to bring
- Binoculars, water bottles (water cooler for refilling available), sunscreen, and bug repellent are recommended.
- Work gloves for handling tree bark, leaves, etc.
- Snacks to have during the hike; breakfast of bagels and fruit provided pre-hike.
- Wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. Layered clothing, and long pants are recommended.

- Some sections of this hike will involve uphill inclines.
