
Join Monticello’s Gardens & Grounds team on a guided, family-friendly nature walk along the Saunders-Monticello Trail, a community space where nature and civic life intersect. Our knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff will lead you through diverse habitats, highlighting the variety of butterflies, birds, and wildflowers that thrive along the trail. Whether you're a budding naturalist or simply looking to enjoy a peaceful day outdoors with your family, this walk invites people of all ages to engage with the natural world and community around them.
Event Details
- This walk is approximately 2 miles along a trail with crushed gravel, wooden boardwalks, and no more than a 5% grade.
- Sturdy shoes and a water bottle are recommended.
- Parking and check-in is at the Monticello David M. Rubenstein Visitor Center. Guests will take a shuttle to the base of the mountain and then hike the Saunders-Monticello Trail back to the visitor center.
- Please bring binoculars for bird watching.
- Dress for the weather; most of the trail is in the shade, but sunscreen or hats may be needed.
- Restrooms, water fountains, and a café are available at the visitor center.
