With native hardwood forest, deep ravines and spectacular views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the trail winds its way toward Monticello and back in a very manageable four miles. A maximum grade of 5% keeps it completely accessible to walkers, cyclists and those in wheelchairs.
Included in the price of admission during regularly scheduled hours. These daily guided outdoor tours focus on the experiences of the enslaved people who lived and labored on the Monticello plantation.

Clock weights that go into the floor, Mastodon bones, double-acting doors...there are lots of things at Monticello that kids find fascinating. These special guided 45-minute tours are specially designed for families with children ages 5 to 11. Offered seasonally multiple times each day.
Join us for the rare opportunity to experience Monticello after dark, decorated with the style of holiday greenery found during Jefferson’s era. This tour offers an intimate look at how all people who lived on the Monticello mountaintop – enslaved and free – celebrated the holidays. Journey through public and private rooms including Monticello’s iconic Dome Room.
