Although Jefferson did not record growing this particular variety of French Marigold, the 314-year old Curtis's Botanical Magazine first illustrated the French Marigold in a 1791 issue. They have been planted at Monticello only since 1995, but are a favorite here for their dazzling displays, which last until the first frost in the fall.
