Monticello ceases operations at Route 20 visitors center; tourism office remains open  |  June 9, 2008
The Thomas Jefferson Foundation has closed its public operations at the Monticello Visitors Center on Route 20. The museum shop, exhibition of Jeffersonian objects, and theater space at the center, located just south of Interstate 64, were closed June 8 in connection with development of the Thomas Jefferson Visitor Center and Smith Education Center at Monticello. Tours and Events
Child-oriented house tours offered six times daily through Aug. 17  |  June 4, 2008
Beginning Saturday, June 14, Monticello’s Tours for Children and their Families will offer youngsters 6 to 11 the opportunity to handle replicas of objects from Thomas Jefferson’s era while they visit the rooms on the main floor of his historic house. Starting the same day, young visitors to Monticello will be able to write with quill pens, play 18th-century games, and take part in other activities at the new Mountaintop Hands-on Activity Center on the grounds. Montalto Tours being offered daily through Oct. 31  |  April 16, 2008
Guided walking tours of Montalto, the landmark peak that rises 410 feet above Monticello and offers unparalleled views of the surrounding countryside, will be conducted at 1 p.m. daily from May 1 through Oct. 31. More »
