Gifts of Property
The Foundation accepts gifts of objects and furniture, such as the one to the right, that are appropriate for its permanent or study collections. Monticello's Curatorial Department will be happy to work with donors on these gifts.
Gifts of property such as land or houses can also help the Foundation. Retaining a life tenancy in a primary residence to be later donated to the Foundation gives a donor an immediate charitable tax deduction and the security of knowing family members will not be burdened with the sale of a home or property at some future date.

Jefferson purchased this cittern, or English guitar, for his granddaughter. Donated to Monticello in 1946, the cittern is expressive of Jefferson's love of music.
