Controller. The Thomas Jefferson Foundation, Inc., the nonprofit organization which owns and operates Monticello, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Controller. This senior financial management position supervises a staff of four and reports directly to the Vice President & Chief Financial Officer. The position oversees the accounting department functions including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, investments and grants administration and is responsible for the preparation and integrity of monthly and annual financial statements and supporting schedules. Other duties include coordination of the annual financial statement audit and preparation of IRS forms 990 and 990-T, endowment earnings allocation and calculation of allowable spending, service on budget team which determines the annual operating and capital budgets, cash flow projection and management, development of policies and procedures to ensure strong internal controls and coordination with IT to maintain financial software.

- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance (advanced degree preferred) and CPA with audit experience.
- Knowledge of GAAP accounting principles with experience in not for profit accounting.
- Minimum of 5 years experience required and no less than 3 years experience in a supervisory role.
- Exceptional organizational, negotiation, problem
- solving and verbal and written communication skills.
- A strong IT orientation with advanced computer skills, including full competency in use and development of spreadsheets, knowledge of database programs, experience in design and set up of organizational accounting systems, and an ability to quickly learn and use financial software. Experience with Great Plains is a plus.

Fulfillment Associate. Monticello seeks an energetic individual to work part-time in its busy distribution center. Primary responsibility will be gift wrapping merchandise with occasional additional responsibility of pre-packing merchandise. Interested candidates should be available to work one day a week in August through October, and two days a week in November and December. Hours are flexible. Position requires repetitive lifting of up to 15 lbs., as well as constant standing, twisting, and reaching. Deadline to apply is July 25, 2008.

Information Technology - Help Desk and Audio Visual Specialist. The Thomas Jefferson Foundation, Inc. seeks an individual to join our Information Technology team. Responsibilities include conducting helpdesk-based support of the Foundation’s desktop computing environment, deploying and maintaining computers and phones, deploying and maintaining audio visual equipment, and managing system backups. Candidate must have demonstrated customer service and communication skills, 2+ years IT support experience, demonstrated experience in audio visual maintenance, strong research skills, ability to work independently, and effective time management skills. Painter. The Thomas Jefferson Foundation is seeking an individual experienced with both interior and exterior paint products, various painting techniques and proper surface preparation. Must be able to climb ladders, build, climb, and safely maneuver on scaffolding, and be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Will also assist in organizing the paint shop and materials. Additional responsibilities will include limited amounts of restoration and maintenance projects. This position is part of the Buildings essential personnel group for inclement weather occurrences. Public Affairs Specialist. Monticello has an exciting entry-level position for an individual who multi-tasks well in an on-the-go environment. Duties include assisting the Monticello event planner, processing requests for visitor information, working with the development office taking RSVPs for private events, and handling other public affairs related tasks. This position works on departmental projects and attends special events; frequent weekend and evening work is required. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel is essential. Team Leader- Museum Shop. .This position is our merchandise expert and performs as a key holder helping to open and close the museum shop in absence of the floor manager and museum shop manager. Primary focus for the team leader is to ensure Monticello guests are assisted promptly in our retail shop. Other responsibilities include creating merchandise displays, filling the sales floor to capacity and shopability, communicating merchandise out-of stocks to shop leadership, and maintaining inventory integrity and organization of understock goods. Qualified candidates will have experience working with customers, cash handling, and computer skills. Knowledge of gardening and plants is a plus.
